The usage of different applications, consumes a lot of time and effort. They are difficult to maintain in the long run. These applications are stand alone. Many  can only function based on their individual specializations. Even the “Best of Breeds” applications offer only plugin at the best. Few offer any Application Programming Interface. This would result to employees having to use different applications and integrate them on a daily basis, as data are not available on one platform only.

It was also emphasized that the use of multiple applications could confuse the end-users, duplicates encoding and even misses out on certain information or relevant data. Aside from the possibility of over-looking or over-writing items due to switching of applications from time to time, this also affects the efficacy and productivity of the employees; from extracting data on one platform, encoding on another and so on is a waste of so much time and patience on the employees. As the output of employees directly affects the performance of the company, complaints and dissatisfaction from customers and/or clients are expected to rise.

Per application have their respective licenses that companies pay for; the use of multiple applications but with negative effects on the business is not wise and cost-effective. Moreover, in the event that multiple platforms crash, this would mean multiple, costly repairs.
