DEVELOPING EGYPT’S COVID-19 TESTING PROCESS IN 3 WEEEKS

ZAD Solutions was given a challenging yet exciting project that needs to be finished in 3 weeks; a finished project that would have to cater millions of customers, brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ZAD Solutions started in 2003 and was the first opensource company in Egypt. Since their opening, they have worked will over 300 clients from small to multinational corporations and have done over 450 projects in 20 industries. In 2009, ZAD Solutions had implemented Odoo, and had later on become partners.

On top of the 3-week deadline, Egypt has over 100 million in population. With this, agility and automation is the key for ZAD Solutions.

ZAD Solutions needed an automated process from patient registration and data base, to lab testing and lab management then to invoicing. COVID-19 testing also needed to be integrated with airport and government offices, and must also be able to issue certificates for travel. A self-service platform for customers is also needed, for pre-registrations to avoid waiting in line and staying outside for longer periods. Finally, ZAD Solutions needed an Intelligence System for monitoring figured and generating of reports for Insurance Companies and the testing company itself.

Odoo was ZAD Solutions’ first choice for opensource ERP, because Odoo was already ready for installation, is modular which supports their agenda of agility, has a lot of community add-ons and is a framework which makes it very adaptable to the needs of the company and its customers, and most of all, Odoo is easily accessed online.

Core Modules of ZAD Solutions on Odoo are: Invoicing, Contacts (for Registration), Users, Dashboard & Reports and Website. With minimal implementation of changes, ZAD Solutions was able to customize the platform in a few days and have successfully had it up and running.

They started with a normal lab management workflow, one that already exists in other companies. Later on, ZAD Solutions had to do further customization on their Odoo platform due to the increase on demand of testing and the current workflow cannot keep up with the number of cases in Egypt. Although they had to start from scratch, it did not take them a lot of time to establish a new lab workflow with Odoo.

The least urgent concern on this project, but was the most important was to develop a fully integrated mobile app. With this, customers could easily register for an account, select their preferred time and place of the testing, have access to their results and track history. It took ZAD Solutions a week to release their mobile app, which was challenging but had made their lab workflow faster and easier.

On issuance of travel certificates, it was a challenge as well because people have resorted to forging documents. And so, airports have requested for a direct integration (APIs) and access to ZAD Solutions’ database. ZAD Solutions had also released QR codes and had to work with a 3rd party application (WhatsApp). Although challenging, this too had improved customer feedback, traffic at facilities, customer waiting time and real-time reporting and monitoring.

Because of the smoothened and impressive process, the news of having an automated PCR system had caught the attention of the media.
